FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is hypnosis safe? Are there any side effects?
A. Hypnosis is perfectly safe and completely natural. By being hypnotized you will feel totally relaxed yet still in control. Whilst the physical body is relaxed, awareness within the mind increases. There are no negative side effects whatsoever. After the session you will still feel calm yet ready for whatever you need to do. It is completely safe to drive, operate machinery etc.

Q. Will I be asleep? What if I don't wake up?
A. Many people assume that to be 'put under' you must go to sleep. This is completely untrue - at all times you are fully aware of what is happening. Indeed, there would be little point in speaking to you if you were sound asleep. The trance-like feeling achieved by entering the hypnotic state is very similar to that of daydreaming. Many clients feel so content that they are reluctant to 'come back'. However, nobody can stay in trance forever. The very worst possibility is that you may feel so comfortable that you do fall into a natural sleep.

Q. Will I lose control or do anything silly?
A. At no point do you lose control. Clinical hypnotherapy is very different to the world of stage hypnosis. Throughout each and every session you are aware of everything that is happening, of everything that is being said. If, for example, you have an itchy nose, you are completely free and able to scratch it. You will never lose control or do anything that you disagree with. If a suggestion is made which goes against your beliefs you may simply disregard it.

Q. Can I definitely be hypnotized?
A. Anyone can be hypnotized as long as they want to be. However, as a clinical hypnotherapist I reserve the right to refuse to work with anyone who is under the influence of drugs, alcohol or those with certain psychiatric conditions.

Q. How does hypnotherapy work? How many sessions will I need?
A. Hypnotherapy works through the power of suggestion. Whilst in the relaxed state, the therapist gives positive suggestions to your subconscious mind, which you then put into practice. As the physical being becomes more relaxed, the subconscious mind becomes much more focused and receptive to the suggestions being made. Many problems may be resolved in as little as one session, however each client (and the magnitude of the problem) is different. Here at AJD Hypnotherapy, all treatments begin with an in-depth consultation, thereby ensuring the very best course of action is taken.

Q. What do I need to do? Can I bring a friend?
A. The only things you need to do are:-
(a) turn up for your appointment;
(b) be honest (for example, if you require help regarding an addiction, it
is pointless pretending that you only give in to it on a Saturday
night if it is, in fact, every day.
(c) be prepared to enjoy feeling calm and totally relaxed.
As you are guided to achieve this dreamlike state, it is important that you feel comfortable, undisturbed and at ease. This is the first reason that it is preferable for nobody else to be in the room. The second reason is that, in such an atmosphere, with this guidance into hypnosis, it is highly probable that anyone else present will also become hypnotized. (N.B. When working with children, an adult may attend the session)

Q. Will I be able to discuss my problems in confidence?
A. At AJD Hypnotherapy, privacy and confidentiality is 100% guaranteed.

Q. Is hypnotherapy successful?
A. Government research in the UK found a 98% success rate of those who attend sessions with qualified hypnotherapists. This compares to a 30%-50% success rate of psychiatrists reported in the same research. There is also the added bonus of hypnosis being completely safe and natural, with no need for pills or medication. Hypnotherapy has proved to be the fastest and most effective way of solving problems.

Q. What can hypnosis be used for?
A. Hypnotherapy can give huge benefits in so many areas, whether it be an addiction, a phobia, an ailment, stress, weight loss, or even wanting to perform better at a chosen sport. Please refer to the A-Z Index for a fuller list. click here
